Item Number Item/Resolution

The meeting had originally been called to debate an independent enquiry into child sex abuse. At the last Council meeting the Lead Executive Member for Children’s Service had provided an overview statement and a Members’ Briefing had also been held.

Councillor Rathmell moved that as an authority Middlesbrough should remove its defence of the statute limitations which the victims had identified as a stumbling block in seeking compensation. Councillor Rathmell also called for sincere individual apologies to be made to the victims.

The Chair explained that a formal motion could not be moved without notice at the Extraordinary Meeting. The requisite notice had to be given for a motion to give all Members the opportunity to be in attendance at the meeting.

Councillor Rathmell requested that a motion be included in the business for the next ordinary Council meeting.
